Hollywood star George Clooney staged a victorious red carpet comeback to the 82nd Venice Film Festival for the premiere of Jay Kelly, even as he fought against a sinus infection. Although the actor had missed some of the previous events because of his illness, his appearance on August 28 was greeted with open arms by fans, co-stars, and the crew of the film.
Emotional Standing Ovation
The premiere of Noah Baumbach’s coming-of-age comedy-drama at the Sala Grande cinema became an emotional one. Clooney was given an eight-and-a-half-minute standing ovation, in appreciation both for his sincere performance and for his determination to show up in spite of his illness battle. Sitting next to his wife Amal Clooney, the actor kissed her during the applause as she looked visibly shaken. Clooney afterwards hugged his co-star Adam Sandler and director Baumbach, who hugged each other in return, creating a celebratory moment for the crew and cast.
Style and Romance on the Red Carpet
The couple glowed as they stood side by side. Amal dazzled in a fuchsia minidress, accompanied by gold Aquazzura Forever More Sandal 105 heels and a gold clutch. Clooney, the quintessential gentleman, dressed in a standard black tuxedo with white shirt and black bow tie. He escorted Amal’s arm lovingly the entire time, even planting a kiss on her hand during a touching moment that earned applause from fans and photographers everywhere.
Battling Illness with Grace
Clooney had previously skipped a number of Venice events because of his sinus infection. Baombach defended his absence with humor during a press conference, saying, “Even movie stars get sick.” Clooney representatives also confirmed that he was on doctor’s orders to scale back his activities after becoming sick on August 27.
Upcoming Release
Jay Kelly will open in theaters on November 14 and on Netflix on December 5, making Clooney’s return to comedy-drama one of the year’s most awaited highlights.
