Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor’s romance takes a terrifying turn in Remain teaser

Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor star in M Night Shyamalan’s Remain, a mysterious romance that takes a disturbing turn in its first teaser.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor play a young couple whose relationship takes a disturbing turn in M Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film Remain. The first teaser for the movie was released on Monday and gives viewers a glimpse of what appears to be a romantic story before taking a much darker direction.

The teaser begins by showing some of the happiest moments shared by Wren, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and Tate, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Their relationship initially appears warm and loving, making the film look like a straightforward romance. However, the mood quickly changes as the story begins to reveal something much more unsettling.

In one emotional scene, Wren breaks down and asks Tate, “Why can’t we be together, Tate?”

Tate quietly responds, “I think you know.”

The teaser then becomes increasingly mysterious. In one scene, Wren appears to be preparing to slam her head against a bathroom wall. Before Tate can understand what is happening, she suddenly disappears in front of him. The moment raises several questions about what is happening to Wren and what Tate may know about their relationship.

Remain also features Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Kieran Mulcare and Maria Dizzia in important roles.

The film is inspired by author Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name and is scheduled to release in theatres on Valentine’s Day 2027. M Night Shyamalan has produced the film with Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures. Marc Bienstock and Sparks’ producing partner Theresa Park are also producers, while Sparks serves as an executive producer.

Remain was originally scheduled to arrive in theatres during Halloween 2026. The release was later moved to Valentine’s Day 2027.

Earlier this year, Shyamalan described Remain as the highest testing film of his career. The filmmaker has directed 16 films so far, including the acclaimed thriller The Sixth Sense.

Shyamalan’s most recent film was 2024’s Trap. The movie starred Josh Hartnett as a serial killer who takes his young daughter to a concert, only to discover that the police have been alerted about his presence and the venue has been placed under lockdown.
