Joker: Folie a Deux, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 Joker, made a grand debut at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, receiving an impressive 11-minute standing ovation at its premiere. Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, the film, a musical psychological thriller, left the audience at the Sala Grande cheering, with many chanting “Ga-ga, Ga-ga!” in honor of Lady Gaga. Despite the overwhelming response from the crowd, early reviews of the film have been more tempered, reflecting mixed reactions from critics.

Lady Gaga’s appearance at the festival drew even more attention as she officially announced her engagement to Michael Polanski. The singer and actress flaunted an 8-carat diamond ring from Tiffany & Co. on the red carpet, making her engagement one of the most talked-about moments of the festival. Gaga stunned in a black and white polka dot La Roxx minidress, paired with sheer black tights, heels, and her signature blonde hair styled in a half-updo.

The first Joker film, released in 2019, was a massive success, earning 11 Oscar nominations and winning two Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. It also became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. The sequel, Joker: Folie a Deux, sees Phoenix reprising his role as the titular character, with Lady Gaga joining the cast as Harley Quinn. Other notable actors include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey, while Zazie Beetz returns as Sophie.

Set to release on October 4, 2024, the film has already generated significant buzz, not only for its storyline but also for its musical elements and the performances of its star-studded cast. While the initial reviews may be mixed, the excitement surrounding the film, especially with the powerful performances of Phoenix and Gaga, remains high.
