September brings three distinctly different Hollywood releases to Indian cinemas, led by the return of two much-loved stars to one of their most recognisable franchises. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunite as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in Practical Magic 2, nearly three decades after the 1998 original. Directed by Susanne Bier, the sequel expands the Owens family story with Joey King joining the returning leads. The cast also features Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing. Warner Bros. has scheduled the film for an September 11 theatrical release in India.
Also arriving on September 11 is Fall 2: Deadpoint, the follow-up to the 2022 survival thriller Fall. Harriet Slater and Arsema Thomas play two women stranded thousands of feet above the ground after a rockslide during a trip to Thailand. Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, the film continues the franchise’s high-altitude survival formula.
A week earlier, A24 brings Onslaught, Adam Wingard’s action thriller, to Indian screens on September 4. Adria Arjona leads the film as a former Army sniper who is pulled back into action after genetically engineered super-soldiers escape from a secret facility. Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Drew Starkey and Michael Biehn also star.
With Practical Magic 2 targeting franchise nostalgia, Fall 2: Deadpoint selling survival spectacle and Onslaught offering Wingard’s brand of action genre filmmaking, the three releases give the September Hollywood slate three clearly differentiated theatrical propositions.
