Disney and Pixar thrilled fans at the 2024 D23 Expo by unveiling a first look at Toy Story 5, which will feature a unique conflict between classic toys and modern electronic devices. The much-anticipated sequel brings back fan-favorite characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, respectively.
Tom Hanks Hints at Woody’s Return
Tom Hanks recently confirmed that he’s begun recording lines for Woody by posting a cryptic photo on Instagram: five fingers raised in front of a microphone, alongside a script. Though he didn’t name the film directly, his caption “First day of work on a certain Story Number 5! Need a hint? Disney. Studio B.”—left little doubt in fans’ minds. The post sent waves of excitement through the Toy Story fandom, signaling Woody’s return is official.
Tim Allen Praises the Story and Shares Progress
Tim Allen, who wrapped up his voice work as Buzz Lightyear last month, shared more insight into the upcoming movie during a conversation with Collider. He confirmed he has completed the third act and praised the script as “really clever” and “brilliant.” Allen added, “Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it. They wouldn’t have called me and Tom.”
He also reminisced about his favorite moments across the franchise, especially the emotional exchange between Buzz and Woody in Toy Story 4, and iconic scenes from Toy Story 2 and 3. While he cherishes every film, Allen revealed Toy Story 3 holds a special place in his heart.
