Angelina Jolie surprises Kharkiv boxing club with son Knox, here’s what happened

Angelina Jolie surprised a Kharkiv boxing club with son Knox, who trained in Muay Thai with Ukrainian defenders during her latest Ukraine visit.

Hollywood star and humanitarian Angelina Jolie surprised athletes and residents in Ukraine’s Kharkiv with an unexpected visit to a local boxing club. Jolie arrived at the Spadkoyemets boxing club with her son Knox during her latest trip to Ukraine. The visit was not widely expected, and even the club’s owner reportedly had no idea that the Oscar winning actor would be among the guests. The Ukrainian Boxing Federation later shared a picture of Jolie and Knox at the gym, confirming the surprise appearance.

The Boxing Federation of Ukraine shared the photograph on Instagram and wrote: “The famous actress Angelina Jolie visited the Spadkoyemets boxing club in Kharkiv.” The federation also said, “Her son Knox, together with Ukrainian defenders, held a Muay Thai training session at the club.” According to reports, Knox joined Ukrainian defenders for the training while Jolie interacted with people at the gym. The club’s owner, Pavlo Chyshko, later spoke about the unexpected meeting and said he had “had no idea” that Jolie would visit after receiving a booking for the gym.

“To everyone who asked me this is not a joke, not AI. It just happened completely by chance: Angelina Jolie, to our great delight, dropped by our gym,” he said in a video posted on Instagram. Chyshko also said Jolie complimented the gym and asked his son how long he had been involved in sports. “She complimented us, said she liked our gym, and we thanked her. She asked my son how long he’d been doing sports. That’s real class. And her son is just the same. He shook hands, back and forth. It was really cool!”

Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second largest city and is located close to the Russian border. The city has faced repeated Russian drone and missile attacks since the full scale invasion began in 2022. Jolie has previously visited Ukraine during the conflict and has been involved in humanitarian work for refugees.

Meanwhile, Jolie’s directorial project Without Blood is set to reach US theatres on September 18, 2026. The film stars Salma Hayek Pinault and Demián Bichir and is based on Alessandro Baricco’s novel. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and focuses on war, trauma, memory and healing.
