Zendaya has turned 30, and the actor marked the special milestone by taking fans back to her childhood. On Monday, local time, the Euphoria star shared an adorable throwback picture from her younger days along with a heartfelt message about entering a new decade. The post also continued her tradition of sharing a childhood photograph around her birthday.
In the picture, a young Zendaya can be seen posing with pigtails while wearing a light pink tank top and purple plaid pants. The simple childhood photograph offered fans a glimpse of the actor before she became one of Hollywood’s most recognised stars.
Alongside the image, Zendaya wrote, “I can’t thank ya’ll enough for making the last year of my twenties so beautiful, I have so much to be grateful for and so much to look forward to, with love as always….here’s to 30!!!!!”
Zendaya’s mother, Claire Stoermer, also celebrated her daughter’s birthday by sharing a childhood picture. The photograph shows a young Zendaya wearing an aqua blue floral dress and posing in front of a wooden play structure.
Stoermer, 62, wrote, “Happy 30th birthday to the love and light of my life!! Even tho you’re not on socials anymore, and you won’t see this!!” She ended the message by adding, “we just got off facetime!!”
Zendaya was born September 1, 1996, to Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu Coleman. Her parents, both teachers, divorced in 2016 after eight years of marriage but have remained close. Zendaya is their only child together and has five older half siblings on her father’s side.
Her mother has played an important role in her life. Stoermer spent nearly two decades teaching in underfunded schools in Oakland, California, before moving into arts administration. Zendaya has often spoken about how her mother influenced her work ethic and appreciation for education.
Professionally, Zendaya continues to have a busy schedule. She returned as Rue Bennett for the third and final season of Euphoria after a lengthy break. She also starred opposite Robert Pattinson in A24’s The Drama.
Zendaya and Pattinson also appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, with Zendaya playing Athena. She has also returned as MJ in Spider Man: Brand New Day alongside Tom Holland. In addition, she is set to reprise her role as Chani in Dune: Part Three, the final film in Denis Villeneuve’s sci fi trilogy.
