BLACKPINK member Lisa has released the much awaited MV teaser for her upcoming solo single SaWaDiKa, giving fans a first look at the visual style of her new music era. The teaser comes ahead of the song’s release on September 3 and has already drawn attention because of its strong connection to Thai culture.
The teaser and recently released promotional material show Lisa using several elements closely associated with Thailand. Muay Thai plays an important role in the visual concept, while a tuk tuk also appears in the campaign. Lisa is seen in a modern take on Muay Thai inspired clothing, mixing sportswear with a more fashionable and contemporary look.
The title SaWaDiKa is a stylised version of the Thai greeting “sawasdee ka”, a phrase commonly used by Thai women when saying hello. By using the greeting as the title of her new single, Lisa continues to bring elements of her Thai background into her international music career.
SaWaDiKa is the first single from Lisa’s upcoming six track EP PRESS PLAY. The EP is scheduled to arrive on October 23. The remaining song titles have not yet been announced, making the new single an early introduction to the sound and visual direction of the project.
This is not the first time Lisa has included Thai culture in her solo work. Her 2021 debut single LALISA featured Thai inspired clothing and visual elements. She later brought Bangkok into the spotlight through her 2024 single Rockstar, which featured locations around the city.
With SaWaDiKa, Lisa is adding more recognisable Thai elements to her music, including Muay Thai, the tuk tuk and the Thai language. The approach gives the upcoming release a clear cultural identity while keeping the visuals connected to her international pop career.
The SaWaDiKa single is scheduled to release on September 3, while PRESS PLAY will follow on October 23.
