Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala and starring Alia Bhatt, is struggling at the box office. On its fourth day (Monday), the film earned ₹1.50 crore in India, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.com, bringing its total earnings to ₹18.10 crore. The film had a weak start, earning ₹4.55 crore on day one, followed by ₹6.55 crore on day two, and ₹5.5 crore on day three. Monday’s 10.35% Hindi occupancy reflects a further dip in its performance.
Comparing this to Alia’s previous film, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which had earned ₹7.02 crore on its fourth day, Jigra has clearly underperformed. In fact, Jigra marks Alia’s lowest box office opening since her 2014 film Highway.
Alia Bhatt’s Jigra stands strong closing first weekend with decent day 3 box office collection
Jigra revolves around Satya Anand, played by Alia Bhatt, who goes to extreme lengths to save her brother, portrayed by Vedang Raina. The film is co-produced by Dharma Productions, Viacom18 Studios, and Eternal Sunshine Productions.
Despite its emotional storyline, Jigra has faced some controversies. Actor-filmmaker Divya Khossla Kumar accused Alia of manipulating the box office numbers, alleging that she bought tickets for her own film to inflate the collection figures. Additionally, Divya claimed that Jigra’s plot closely resembles her own film Savi. Another controversy arose when actor Bujou Thaangjam spoke out about his negative experience with the casting team, who failed to follow up with him after initial discussions for the film.
These controversies, combined with a lackluster box office performance, have posed challenges for Jigra, making it a tough release for Alia Bhatt.
