Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video has kicked off its box office journey with a decent ₹5 crore net collection on day one in India. Released on Dussehra, the comedy starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri edged past its competitor Jigra, which earned ₹4.25 crore on the same day. Despite the win, the box office performance is considered moderate, especially since Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video had a wider release and higher screen count.
The movie saw 17% occupancy during the day, improving to 32% for the night shows, indicating a positive trend as the weekend approaches. With the first Saturday falling on the Dussehra holiday, the film is expected to pick up momentum, and trade analysts are hopeful about its prospects.
Directed by Raaj Shaandilya, the film is a slapstick comedy set in 1990s’ small-town India, where a newly-wedded couple finds themselves in trouble after their wedding night sex tape goes missing. Alongside Rao and Dimri, the ensemble cast includes veterans like Vijay Raaz, Archana Puran Singh, and Rakesh Bedi. The film also marks the return of Mallika Sherawat to the screen.
While the initial box office numbers show potential for growth, the film opened to mixed reviews, which could affect its long-term success. However, its genre might attract a family audience, especially over the holiday weekend.
