L2: Empuraan, the much-awaited sequel to the 2019 action-thriller Lucifer, released on Thursday, March 27, and performed solidly at the box office in its opening outing. On the day of its release, L2: Empuraan saw a robust 61.02 percent occupancy in Malayalam theaters. The morning shows were great with a 63.32 percent occupancy, and the afternoon shows saw a 54.32 percent audience. The evening shows saw 60.43 percent occupancy, but it was the night shows that saw maximum attendance at 66 percent. This is a great performance, which indicates a huge fan base and expectation for the movie.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh congratulated the historic opening of the film, citing housefull shows in prominent Kerala cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode. Adarsh reported on X (formerly Twitter) that L2: Empuraan had “taken a record-breaking start” and was likely to “rewrite opening-day records,” a big milestone for the Malayalam film industry.
