Following the cold welcome of Kanguva, Suriya returns with a bang in Retro, a fashionably slick thriller helmed by renowned director Karthik Subbaraj. The movie, starring Pooja Hegde in the lead, also has powerhouse actors Joju George and Jayaram playing pivotal roles. With Santhosh Narayanan’s music, Retro is going for a big release on May 1, coinciding with Labour Day.
Advance Booking Frenzy: Server Crash and Soaring Demand
Pre-bookings for Retro started on April 27 at 4 PM, and the turnout was so enormous that it crashed the ticket servers temporarily. Once fixed, the bookings went through the roof, which indicated the massive buzz surrounding the movie. Filmibeat reported that Retro made Rs 5 crore from pre-bookings in Tamil Nadu in the first 24 hours alone — an unprecedented achievement for any of Suriya’s films.

The excitement has already made a record breaking number. Just one day after the bookings were opened, Retro grossed 82,000 tickets, shattering the record of Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly that had sold 57,000 tickets in the same period. This reflects humongous audience expectations and puts Retro on track for a strong box office opening.
