After a strong opening weekend, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan is facing a significant drop in box office performance, particularly evident on its first Monday. While the film was expected to earn in single digits, the actual drop has raised concerns given its substantial budget.
Following the success of Jailer, which earned ₹345 crores net in India, there were high hopes for Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel. Despite receiving decent word-of-mouth, the film has not performed as anticipated. Ideally, it should have experienced a drop of around 50-55% compared to its Sunday collection of ₹23 crores. However, early estimates suggest it has dropped by a staggering 78.26-73.91%, with Monday’s collection expected to be around ₹5-6 crores.
For Vettaiyan to maintain a respectable total, it would need to minimize drops over the coming weekdays. Currently, its total earnings stand at approximately ₹111-112 crores net after five days, and projections indicate it may finish its opening week below ₹130 crores. If it doesn’t recover quickly, the film’s long-term prospects look challenging.
