‘Heartbroken’ AR Rahman pens emotional note post his separation from Saira Banu; says they hoped to complete 30 years

Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman has expressed his emotions and shared a heartfelt message following his decision to separate from his wife, Saira Banu, after nearly three decades of marriage. On Wednesday morning, Rahman took to X (formerly Twitter) to pen a note reflecting on this difficult moment in his life. He wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end,” acknowledging the painful reality of the separation. Rahman described this period as a “fragile chapter,” adding, “In this shattering, we seek meaning,” while also recognizing that “the pieces may not find their place again.”

Rahman’s message was accompanied by gratitude towards friends and well-wishers who have respected their privacy during this time. He also used the hashtag #ARRSairaaBreakup to mark this significant moment in his life.

Their children, Khatija and Ameen, also shared posts requesting privacy. Khatija Rahman wrote on Instagram Stories, asking for the matter to be treated with respect and confidentiality. Similarly, Ameen requested understanding from the public, urging everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this challenging period.

A joint statement from the couple, released on Tuesday by their lawyer Vandana Shah, revealed that the separation came after “significant emotional strain” in their relationship. The statement expressed that despite the couple’s deep love for each other, the tensions and difficulties in their marriage had created an irreparable gap, leading to the decision to part ways.

A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu married in 1995 and have three children together—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. While the couple has been through a difficult phase, they have requested understanding and space as they navigate this personal chapter.
