Archana Puran Singh has finally addressed the discussion surrounding comedian Samay Raina’s jokes about her family during her appearance on India’s Got Latent. While some viewers felt that the jokes went too far, Archana and her family have made it clear that they did not take the comments personally.
Archana spoke about the episode in a video shared on her son Aaryamann Sethi’s YouTube channel, Aary Vlogs. She was joined by Aaryamann and her husband, actor Parmeet Sethi. Aaryamann, who was present in the audience when the episode was filmed, said he normally avoids commenting on such discussions but felt it was important to speak this time because he found the joke funny and was not offended by it.
Aaryamann explained that he understood the nature of Samay’s comedy and did not believe the comedian was trying to personally attack him or his family. He said, “I usually don’t say something about all this but I thought we should say something this time just because I feel like… it’s very funny. I mean, the joke was also funny because, to be fair, when we vlog, we are at home only, so that’s not wrong and my mother also does laugh for a living. First of all, let’s just point this out, it’s a joke. And it’s okay. He did not mean to hurt me or anyone in my family.”
During the episode, Samay made several jokes about Archana’s husband Parmeet and their sons Aaryamann and Ayushmaan. He referred to the family’s vlogs and joked that none of the men in the family worked.
Archana said she already knew what kind of comedy India’s Got Latent was known for before agreeing to appear on the show. She therefore did not see Samay’s comments as an attempt to insult her family. She also compared the situation to her equation with Kapil Sharma, who regularly makes jokes about her on his show.
Archana said, “I didn’t personally get offended by anything.”
Aaryamann further revealed that Archana and Samay speak twice a day and share a good relationship. He said people may have their own opinions about the joke, but the family members who were actually part of it did not have a problem.
Archana also asked viewers not to feel offended on her family’s behalf. She said Samay’s intention was simply to create a funny moment and added, “He just wanted to create that one moment of laughter for everybody. For me, that was the intent of that punch. I have no regret about Latent.”
The discussion also involved comedian Sunil Pal, who had questioned Archana’s appearance on the show. Parmeet responded by questioning why Sunil had later worked with Samay in an advertisement.
During the episode, Samay had joked, “Toh aapke vlogs mein maine dekha hai, na aapka pati kaam karta hai, na aapke do nalle bete kaam karte hain. Yahin baithe hain.”
Archana responded at the time, “Maine bola tha pehle front row mein mat baithna. This is not how you get fame. This is how you get beizzati.”
Samay then continued with another joke about the family, saying, “Aapke papa toh kuch bhi nahi karte, right? So it’s just, inke ghar mein reverse patriarchy chal raha hai. Only the woman is working.”
