The 2001 HBO miniseries, created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, is widely regarded as one of the most memorable World War II dramas ever made. Now, 25 years after its original release, the story behind the series is getting a new documentary.
Titled ‘Band Of Brothers: Legacy’, the feature documentary will stream on HBO Max from 9 September. A newly released trailer offers a look at the project, which explores the making of the original miniseries and its impact over the years.
The documentary features new interview material with several actors from the original series, including David Schwimmer, Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston and Michael Cudlitz. Their participation gives the project an opportunity to look back at their experiences while working on the acclaimed war drama.
‘Band Of Brothers’ originally aired in 2001 and followed members of Easy Company, part of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army, during World War II. The series was produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and became known for its detailed storytelling and focus on the soldiers’ experiences.
‘Band Of Brothers: Legacy’ is directed by Chase Millsap, a former Green Beret in the US Army. The documentary also looks at the real history that inspired the series and the process involved in bringing that story to television.
The release date has added another interesting connection to the original series. The documentary will begin streaming on 9 September, the same date the original show first aired. The series began airing just two days before 9/11, an event that would dramatically change the world while the miniseries was still making its way to audiences.
