A breakup takes an unexpected turn in the upcoming coming of age film Don’t Be Shy, which follows a young woman dealing with heartbreak, revenge and an unusual new friendship. The film stars Aarushi Bajaj, Piyush Khati, Bianca Arora and Ansh Duggal in the lead roles.
The story centres on Shyamili Das, also known as Shy, who is used to being one of the most confident and popular girls around. Her life, however, changes suddenly when Mayank, her boyfriend of three years, decides to end their relationship.
Shy is left heartbroken and angry after the breakup. Instead of simply moving on, she decides that she wants revenge on Mayank. However, her plan takes an unexpected turn when she gets to know Tara, the girl Mayank is now dating.
What begins with anger and resentment gradually develops into a friendship between Shy and Tara. The two young women find themselves connecting in ways neither of them expected. Their relationship becomes an important part of the story as Shy begins to understand friendship, compassion and herself in a different way.
The film explores familiar experiences of growing up, including first love, heartbreak, friendship and the emotional confusion that often comes with young relationships. It also looks at how difficult situations can lead people towards unexpected connections.
Don’t Be Shy has been written and directed by Sreeti Mukerji. The film is produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt under Eternal Sunshine Productions, with Grishma Shah and Vikesh Bhutani serving as co producers.
The supporting cast includes Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu, Neha Dhupia and Anju Alva Naik in pivotal roles.
The film will be available in Hindi with English subtitles. It is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Prime Video across India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Don’t Be Shy will premiere on September 25, 2026. The story brings together romance, friendship and the emotional ups and downs of growing up, with Shy’s unexpected bond with Tara at the centre of the narrative.
