Spider Noir cancelled despite 11 Emmy nominations after one season

Prime Video has cancelled Nicolas Cage’s Spider Noir after one season, despite the Marvel series earning 11 Emmy nominations.

Prime Video has cancelled Spider Noir after just one season, bringing an unexpected end to Nicolas Cage’s live action Marvel series just as it heads into the 2026 Emmy weekend with 11 nominations. The cancellation comes only a little over three months after the series premiered in May. Cage starred as Ben Reilly, a down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his past as the city’s mysterious superhero known as The Spider.

The eight episode series was generally well received and earned 11 Emmy nominations, the highest tally for any Prime Video show this year. Its nominations include production design, cinematography, title design, prosthetic makeup, music, sound, visual effects and stunt categories. The timing makes the cancellation particularly striking, with the Creative Arts Emmys taking place on September 5 and 6.

Spider Noir also represented an important part of Amazon MGM Studios’ relationship with Sony Pictures Television. It was the first series to come out of their deal to develop television projects based on Spider Man and related characters. Despite the decision on Spider Noir, the partnership is not ending, with another project based on Sony’s Marvel universe still in development.

For Cage, the series marked his first regular television role and gave the actor an unusual live action extension of the Spider Man Noir character he had previously voiced in Sony’s animated Spider Verse films.

All eight episodes remain available on Prime Video. The cancellation leaves Spider Noir as an unusual streaming casualty, ending a critically recognised Marvel series at the very moment its awards profile is at its strongest.
