Netflix has released the teaser trailer for The Mosquito Bowl, an upcoming World War II drama directed by Peter Berg. The film stars Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgard, Ray Nicholson and Tom Francis in the lead roles. Based on an extraordinary true story, The Mosquito Bowl follows four of America’s top college football players whose lives change after the attack on Pearl Harbour. The young athletes put their successful sporting careers aside and join the U.S. Marines as the country enters World War II.
The story follows the four men as they prepare for the invasion of Okinawa. While facing the dangers of war, they also become part of a football game that would later become known as one of the most remarkable games in the sport’s history.
The match brings together several major college football players of the time. However, what begins as a football game takes on a much more serious meaning as the young men face the possibility of not returning from the war.
For many of the players involved, the game would eventually become the last football match they ever played. This gives the event a tragic place in the history of college football and forms the central emotional element of the film.
The teaser gives a first look at the young athletes as they move between their lives on the football field and the realities of military service. Their hopes of building careers in sports are replaced by the much more difficult task of surviving a war.
Peter Berg has directed the film, with Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, Tom Francis, Brent Comer and Dominic Bogart leading the cast.
The Mosquito Bowl will first open in UK cinemas on November 13. The film will then begin streaming globally on Netflix from November 25, giving audiences a chance to watch the story of the players and the football game that took place shortly before the invasion of Okinawa.
