The trailer of The Scandal has given viewers a closer look at the complicated relationships at the centre of the upcoming period drama. Set during the Joseon era, the series follows Lady Cho, played by Son Ye Jin, Jo Won, played by Ji Chang Wook, and Hee Yeon, portrayed by Nana. Their lives become connected through a game involving attraction, manipulation and personal desire.
The newly released poster features the three main characters against the backdrop of Bukchon. It also reflects the difference between the strict rules of Joseon society and the personal desires of the characters. Lady Cho is shown as confident and powerful, while Jo Won’s intense expression hints at the attraction that influences his decisions. Hee Yeon appears more reserved, reflecting the difficult situation she finds herself in.
The trailer begins with a letter from Lady Cho to Jo Won before revealing the challenge between them. Lady Cho asks Jo Won to seduce So Ok, a young woman who is expected to become her husband’s concubine. However, Jo Won does not simply accept the challenge. Instead, he proposes trying to seduce Hee Yeon.
His decision changes the direction of their game. Hee Yeon does not easily accept his advances and tries to resist him. As the story develops, what initially appears to be a simple contest starts becoming much more serious.
The trailer also hints that the game could have emotional consequences for all three characters. Lady Cho and Jo Won appear confident about controlling the situation, but their decisions may create feelings that they did not expect. Meanwhile, Hee Yeon becomes caught between their intentions as the situation becomes increasingly difficult for her.
Directed by Jung Ji Woo, The Scandal explores themes of love, desire, power and social restrictions through the lives of three people. Their relationships gradually become more complicated as they struggle to control the consequences of their choices.
The series also marks the first major pairing of Son Ye Jin and Ji Chang Wook, while Nana joins them as another important character in the story.
The Scandal will premiere exclusively on Netflix on September 18, 2026.
