Nadaaniyan, Netflix’s new romantic comedy, is more than a star-studded platform for Ibrahim Ali Khan; it’s a sweet foray into contemporary love, social media pressures, and self-discovery. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment and helmed by Shauna Gautam, the movie brings out the essence of Gen-Z relationships, where romance, ambition, and deceit crash in an entertaining and relatable plot.

Plot & Characters

Nadaaniyan presents us with Pia Jaisingh (Khushi Kapoor), a wealthy and fashionable social media influencer who dedicates her life to presenting an idealized self on the internet. Behind the confident facade of Pia, however, are insecurities and an insatiable need for approval from shallow friends. Conversely, Arjun Mehta (Ibrahim Ali Khan) is a down-to-earth, street-smart boy from Noida who is not interested in the digital world around him. His sole dream is to be a lawyer, and his refreshing lack of interest in Pia’s world is a stark contrast.

Their worlds intersect amidst a tumultuous yet nascent romance, riddled with misconceptions and hilarious moments of “nadaaniyan” (foolishness). The tale is complemented by dynamic side characters, such as Pia’s mother and father, played by Suniel Shetty and Mahima Chaudhary, and Arjun’s family, played by Jugal Hansraj and Dia Mirza. Content creators Apoorva Mukhija and Agastya Shah also make appearances in the film, bringing relevance to the Gen-Z setting.

Performances & Chemistry

Ibrahim Ali Khan impresses in his debut as Arjun. His charming nature and pleasant personality make him a friendly face on screen. Khushi Kapoor, who plays Pia, gives an all-round performance. Her chic and sassy character is more than that and is vulnerable at times, too.

Direction & Music

The soundtrack of the film, with its blend of energetic numbers and soulful ballads, fits the bill and imparts an emotional richness to the narrative.

Verdict

Nadaaniyan is a rom-com but much more; it’s a movie about self-discovery, the value of true friendships, and the finding of love in unexpected settings. Dharmatic Entertainment continues to serve up interesting and new stories, and Nadaaniyan is proof of their capacity to craft stories that appeal to the youth of today.
