Karthi is returning as Sardar with the upcoming sequel Sardar 2. The nearly three minute trailer gives a glimpse into a new story that connects Chandrabose’s past with a dangerous situation in the present. Directed by PS Mithran, the film brings back Karthi in dual roles and introduces SJ Suryah as Black Dagger, who appears to be the main villain in the sequel. The trailer begins with a look at an important incident from Chandrabose’s younger days. Also known as Sardar, Chandrabose was involved in a mission when he was still a trainee. He believed that the mission had been completed successfully, but its effects continued to follow him for years.
The story then moves forward as Chandrabose is forced to deal with the consequences of that old mission. At the same time, he faces a new threat in the form of Black Dagger. SJ Suryah’s character is shown as a strong and dangerous opponent, setting up a major confrontation with Karthi’s character.
Karthi once again plays dual roles in the film. While Chandrabose remains an important part of the story, his son is also shown becoming involved in the same line of work. His journey appears to continue from the events of the first film, where he had to understand the truth about his father’s past.
The first Sardar followed Vijay Prakash, a police officer who wanted to build his own identity while living with the burden of his father’s reputation. Vijay initially believed that Chandrabose was a criminal. He later discovered that his father had accepted the blame for a larger mission in order to protect others. The father and son eventually reunited and worked together against a common enemy.
Sardar 2 appears to continue that story while exploring more of Chandrabose’s past. Malavika Mohanan, Rajisha Vijayan, Ashika Ranganath and Yogi Babu are also part of the cast. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 10.
