Shilpa Shirodkar, a well-known actress from the 1990s who worked alongside stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, and Rajinikanth, recently opened up about her struggles with depression on Bigg Boss 18. After stepping away from acting in 2000 to focus on her family, Shilpa experienced a personal setback when she lost both her parents in 2008, which led to severe depression.
In a candid conversation with her Bigg Boss co-contestant Gunaratna Sadavarte, she shared how her husband, Apresh, made significant sacrifices in his career to support her during this difficult time. Apresh, a banker, left his flourishing career abroad and moved their family back to India to help her heal.

Shilpa acknowledged her husband’s sacrifices but expressed no regrets about the decisions made, stating that her family’s support, especially from her husband and daughter, has been unwavering. She explained that her experience mirrored the sacrifices her own mother made for her, and she believes that the strength her daughter gains from these challenges will benefit her in the future.
Gunaratna, in the conversation, praised Shilpa’s earlier career, comparing her to Madhuri Dixit and noting that her sudden exit from the industry left a void for her viewers. Shilpa responded graciously, saying that while she doesn’t regret her decision, she understands that her fans miss her presence.
Shilpa’s participation in Bigg Boss 18 is also her way of seeking work again. In a previous interview, she revealed that it has been difficult to find acting roles in recent times, as people often do not respond or offer vague promises. For Shilpa, Bigg Boss is an opportunity to showcase herself and potentially attract more projects post-show, highlighting her desire to continue working as an actor.
