Mary Kom has entered the Bigg Boss 20 house as one of the contestants of the latest season of the popular reality show. The five time World Champion has agreed to stay inside the house for the next 105 episodes, bringing her sporting experience and strong personality to the reality show. Bigg Boss 20 premiered on September 6 on JioHotstar and Colors, with Salman Khan returning as the host.
Before Mary entered the house, her close friend and global star Priyanka Chopra sent her a special video message. Priyanka wished the Olympic boxer good luck for her Bigg Boss journey and also had a message for the other contestants. Chopra warned them to be careful of Mary’s ‘knockouts’. The two have shared a close bond since working together on the 2014 biopic Mary Kom, in which Priyanka played the role of the legendary boxer.
Priyanka has spoken highly of Mary Kom and her achievements on several occasions. At the trailer launch of the biopic, she spoke about the importance of telling the story of a female athlete and said, “I think you can’t compare Mary Kom with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. For the first time a film has been mad on life of a female athlete. It is disrespectful to say it is a trend of sports biopic film. Mary Kom is the pride of our nation.”
Talking about the challenge of playing Mary on screen, Priyanka said, “It is the most hardest film of my career. To bring her (Mary Kom’s) personality on screen was the hardest part. To bring the part of a fighter, a homemaker, and a mother was a challenge. She comes from a small town farmer’s family. Sports, in itself is a difficult thing in India, but she did it.”
