John Abraham’s political thriller, The Diplomat, has been recording steady performances at the box office, even with a visible fall in earnings on the week. The film has recorded Rs 16.2 crore in its opening five days in India. Nevertheless, its revenues fell substantially, with its revenue plummeting by 67.47 percent on Monday and decreasing further on Tuesday, as stated by Sacnilk.
Strong Performance Despite Declining Numbers
Even as The Diplomat saw its revenue drop, it has beaten out John Abraham’s last film, Vedaa, in five-day revenues. Where Vedaa saw Rs 15.5 crore in its initial five days of release, The Diplomat already exceeds that figure at Rs 16.2 crore. International markets also provided Rs 3.3 crore for the movie, making the global total sit at Rs 21 crore. In occupancy terms, the film recorded an 8.46 percent occupancy on Tuesday, with Chennai leading at 27 percent, followed by Pune, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Delhi-NCR.

A Gripping Political Thriller
Directed by Shivam Nair and penned by Ritesh Shah, The Diplomat delves into the India-Pakistan tension and revolves around the life of an Indian diplomat named J.P. Singh, played by John Abraham. The movie is inspired by real-life incidents, namely the Uzma Ahmed crisis, who alleged abduction and forced marriage in Pakistan. The diplomat is under immense pressure as he manages to navigate through a knotty web of diplomacy and legal hurdles.
Mixed Reviews for The Diplomat
Although The Diplomat has been appreciated for its tight narrative and suspenseful moments, reviews have been mixed. News18’s review mentions that although the film “packs a punch,” it “doesn’t quite land a knockout,” implying that although the movie provides edge-of-the-seat thrills, it doesn’t quite live up to its potential. Nevertheless, the film continues to make waves for its relevant subject matter and John Abraham’s performance.
