Following the unprecedented success of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn takes the director’s helm once again for Superman, and it’s already generating a buzz. The upcoming superhero movie, featuring David Corenswet as Clark Kent, has emerged as Fandango’s top ticket-seller of opening day for 2025, dethroning Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Exclusive Early Access Boosts Sales
The movie accomplished this task with a well-orchestrated collaboration with Amazon Prime Video, where it provided the subscribers with access to an early screening on June 8 at 7 PM, a whole three days prior to the general nationwide launch. This preview generated enormous demand and enabled the movie to shatter records even before it opened in theaters.
Star-Studded Cast and Major Expectations
Rounding out Corenswet are Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Anthony Carrigan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. Strikingly, Nicholas Hoult’s take on Lex Luthor has already created a firestorm and been one of the top performances to look forward to in 2025.

Superman is also significant as the first DC film in production under the new regime, officially launching the reimagined DC Universe.
Box Office Hopes Soar
Scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, through Warner Bros. Pictures, Superman is estimated to take in $250–300 million globally in its opening weekend. In the domestic market, it’s predicted to gross $100–120 million, becoming possibly one of the year’s largest openers.
Its long-term prospects will rely almost exclusively on word-of-mouth and audience acceptance.
For perspective, 2025’s highest domestic opener to date is A Minecraft Movie at $163 million, and leading for superhero movies is Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World with $88.8 million. Superman is now looking to fly even higher.
