Thunderbolts Hits a Jolt! Marvel Movie Holds Steady with $4M on Second Discount Tuesday

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, also promoted as The New Avengers, continues to show impressive box office endurance. On its second discount Tuesday, the Florence Pugh-led ensemble earned $4 million in the U.S., experiencing just a 46.4% drop from the previous Tuesday. This solid hold mirrors the performance of Ant-Man (2015), which earned $4.3 million with a 45.7% dip on its second Tuesday.

With a current domestic total of $134.4 million, Thunderbolts is displaying better weekday stability than several other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) titles. For comparison, Captain America: The First Avenger dropped 53.8% and earned $3.6 million, while Iron Man and Black Widow saw steeper declines of 48.4% and 55.6%, earning $3.4 million each. Shang-Chi and Thor earned $3.2 million and $3.1 million, with dips of 51.9% and 42.9%, respectively.

Other MCU films fared worse: Captain America: Brave New World and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania dropped over 54%, earning just $2.7 million and $2.5 million. The Incredible Hulk ($2.3M), Eternals ($2.2M), and The Marvels ($1.6M) also saw significant second-Tuesday declines.

Directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo, Thunderbolts serves as the 36th MCU installment and the final film in Phase Five. It follows a group of antiheroes on a high-risk mission that paves their path toward redemption. Alongside Pugh, the cast includes Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and others.

Despite delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood labor strikes, the film was shot across Atlanta, Utah, and Kuala Lumpur. It premiered in London on April 22 and was released in U.S. theaters on May 2.

With a global gross of $274 million, Thunderbolts is currently the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2025, solidifying its position as one of Marvel’s most stable recent successes.
