Aamir Khan shares surprising personal connection to the sport

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is currently adding a touch of glamour to Wimbledon 2024. During his visit to the prestigious tennis tournament in London, Aamir revealed a surprising personal connection to the sport. In an interview shared by Star Sports India, he talked to former tennis player and commentator Vijay Amritraj about his past as a tennis player and why he had to quit at a young age.

Aamir reminisced about his days as a tennis player, mentioning that he was a “very good player at the junior level” and even became the Maharashtra State Champion. However, his tennis journey was cut short when his father asked him to stop playing. Reflecting on this, Aamir said, “I don’t think I could have ever made it to any significant level but I really enjoyed the game so I had a lot of fun while playing it. And then one fine day, my dad decided that I should stop playing so I stopped. Well, I think I am very happy where I am so yeah and good for tennis that I didn’t continue.”

This year marks Aamir’s second time attending Wimbledon. He previously attended the Men’s Final in 2023 with his children Junaid, Ira, and Azad, which he described as a “wonderful experience.” Comparing the live experience to watching it on television, Aamir noted the impressive speed and skill of the players and the unique atmosphere of being there in person. He said, “When you watch it live, you realize just how fast the game is and how amazing the players are and the whole atmosphere, the excitement of watching it live is something else.”

During the conversation, Aamir shared his admiration for rising tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, highlighting his ability to make seemingly impossible shots and his potential to become one of the all-time greats if he continues to perform well. Aamir also acknowledged Novak Djokovic’s presence in the game but pointed out the difficulty of closing points against Alcaraz.

Aamir’s last film, Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), did not perform well at the box office. However, fans can look forward to his next project, Sitare Zameen Par, scheduled for release in December.
