Ali Zafar-Yami Gautam’s TOTAL SIYAPAA has a Spanish connection

First Look of Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam starrer TOTAL SIYAPAA is out and there has been an instant reaction in the social media. Reason? The film appears to be exactly on the same lines of 2004 Spanish film SERES QUERIDOS [ONLY HUMAN in English].

‘Right from the characterisation to the plot to the setting to the situations, TOTAL SIYAPAA is just the same as ONLY HUMAN. The Spanish film was about a comic love story between a Jewish girl and a Palestinian boy. In this Neeraj Pandey produced film; the characters are Indian and Pakistani respectively. Just like ONLY HUMAN, in TOTAL SIYAPAA too the boy believes that he has accidentally killed the girl’s father, which leads to a comedy of errors and quite a few hilarious situations,’ informs an observer.

However, unlike quite a few non-credited rip-offs that Bollywood has been accused of in many instances, there is some good news. As is the case, Neeraj Pandey and director E. Niwas have played safe by procuring the rights of ONLY HUMAN, hence making an official remake.

‘That’s true,’ confirms our well-placed source, ‘No one has copied anything here. In fact when the film was brought on floors many months ago, its source was hinted upon, if not blatantly publicised.’

While that ensures that there won’t be any pointed fingers at the makers, a veteran analyst adds.

‘Gone are the days when you could pick up a film from an unexplored foreign territory and rip it off in Hindi,’ he says, ‘Today in the world of social networking and online availability of films with rising awareness on international cinema, it takes minutes to figure out plagiarism. A filmmaker would rather pay a nominal amount and procure rights than get into trouble in the later stages.’

When contacted, Neeraj confirmed, ‘Yes, the film is an adaptation of ONLY HUMAN.’ Ali too added. He said, ‘We are true to the stage and setting there.’

Guess that should settle it!
