She is smiling away during the promotional rounds of AATMA. However making the film was one tough exercise for Bipasha Basu who had to go through some emotional times shooting for it. If playing a tormented mother was challenge enough, to see her on-screen daughter being taken for a ride, and not an enjoyable one by any means, was a painful experience for her.

‘That is because AATMA is not just a horror film; it is a very layered film. It is not horror of supernatural; it is horror of losing someone you love. It is horror of an abusive relationship,” says Bipasha who was on the other side of the fence last year when she played a tormentor in RAAZ 3.
This is the reason why Bipasha and her director Suparn Verma are promising a film that brings on a strong emotional connect that takes the narrative forward. Not just that as instead of being a quintessential horror film, the film has essentially turned out to be a highly dramatic tale.

‘See, we are used to the idea of fear being of the kind that has been seen in B and C grade films from the past. I firmly believe though that even in today’s times, horror is an untapped genre. Now that’s ironic since fear as an element is the best one for a director to play around with. A love story or a comedy could follow a certain graph or a patter but when it comes to horror, you can run your imagination wild. There are so many ways to scare audience and AATMA finds its own way.’
We would love to see the way adopted by the makers once the film releases all over next weekend.
