Imran Khan was skeptical about GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN

2013 has been a roller coaster ride for Imran Khan. He turned into a villager for MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA and also played a tapori in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA. Naturally, he was apprehensive about picking on a film with a rural setting – GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN.

”It was a mini setback of sorts for Imran since from after being accepted in a certain space, setting and milieu, it was highly difficult for audience to see him as a rustic rural youngster and then a tapori goon from the 80s. There weren’t many brownie points that he received from any of the two films either and it was about time that he returned to the basics. After all, it made sense for him to back to a fold where he truly belonged and though flirtation with experimentation could still take place, he wasn’t too sure about getting into this zone,” says a source.

However, after at least three rounds of script reading, he was finally convinced about picking this film which was to be directed by Punit Malhotra of I HATE LUV STORY fame.

Says Punit, ”Yes, Imran was skeptical about moving into a village. It is natural for people to feel that how would a city boy handle a village setting, both on and off screen. However, let me clarify that while the second half of GTPM is set in a village, it still is narrated from a city boy’s point of view. I don’t think we have seen a village from such point of view before.”

We indeed hope there is something unique in the offing once this Karan Johar production releases all over on 22nd November.
