Following the success of Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, Karan Johar and Rajkummar Rao are set to join forces once again for an exciting new project. According to an exclusive report by PeepingMoon.com, Rao is in advanced talks with Dharma Productions for a high-concept thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sandeep Modi.
Known for his work on hit web series like Aarya and The Night Manager, Modi is now stepping into the Hindi theatrical space with this unique venture. Described as a quirky thriller drama, the film will reportedly blend suspense, dark humour, and eccentric characters in a fresh narrative style. While Rajkummar Rao has verbally committed to the project, official contracts are yet to be finalized.
Sandeep Modi’s Theatrical Debut with Dharma
This will be Sandeep Modi’s first Hindi film for the big screen after his debut with the 2019 Marathi film Chumbak. Interestingly, Modi was earlier supposed to direct a period action film for Dharma starring Kartik Aaryan, but the project was shelved due to budgetary issues. Since then, Johar and Modi have continued to collaborate behind the scenes, culminating in this new thriller.

The film promises to have a strong ensemble cast, with the casting process already underway. Production is currently scheduled to begin in October 2025, although the timeline may shift due to Rao’s packed schedule.
Busy Times Ahead for Rajkummar Rao
Rajkummar Rao, currently enjoying the success of Bhool Chuk Maaf, is next slated to begin work on his second production — a satirical drama on India’s education system, co-starring Keerthy Suresh. He is also attached to Vikramaditya Motwane’s biopic on Sourav Ganguly. Additionally, Rao’s next release, Maalik, directed by Bhakshak fame Pulkit, hits theatres on July 11, while his Netflix-backed debut production Toaster is expected to premiere later this year.
