The team behind the American-Hindi short film Anuja is celebrating as the film secures a nomination in the Live Action Short Film category at the 97th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars 2025. Directed by Adam J. Graves and backed by Priyanka Chopra, Mindy Kaling, and Guneet Monga, the film’s recognition highlights the global appeal of its storytelling.
On January 23, 2025, Priyanka Chopra, an executive producer of the film, took to Instagram to share her excitement. She expressed her pride in the project, writing, “Yaaaay! Anuja is heading to the 2025 Oscars as a nominee for Best Live Action Short Film! Incredible! Huge congratulations to Adam J. Graves for capturing the essence of love, family, and resilience so beautifully.

I’m in awe of the incredible talent of our actresses, Sajda Pathan and Ananya Shanbhag, for their powerful performances.” Chopra also emphasized her production house Purple Pebble Pictures’ commitment to supporting bold, evocative storytelling.
The Academy officially announced the nominations earlier on their X (formerly Twitter) handle. Alongside Anuja, other nominees in the category include A Lien, I’m Not A Robot, The Last Ranger, and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.
While Anuja celebrates this milestone, Payal Kapadia’s acclaimed All We Imagine As Light, another strong contender, missed the shortlist.
The recognition of Anuja reinforces the growing global reach of Indian-origin stories and collaborations. As fans eagerly await the awards ceremony later this year, the nomination itself stands as a significant achievement for the film and its team.
