Shatrughan Sinha Remembers His Bond with Sunil Dutt and Sanjay Dutt’s Struggles
Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha recently recalled the heartfelt bond of friendship he shared with the late legendary actor Sunil Dutt, particularly during a challenging time in the life of Sunil’s son, Sanjay Dutt. At the launch of producer Rajan Lall’s biography, Sinha spoke about the efforts made to secure Sanjay Dutt’s release from jail years ago, with the help of Rajan Lall and political stalwart Balasaheb Thackeray.
Sinha’s Memories of Supporting Sanjay Dutt
Sinha remembered Sunil Dutt as an elder brother figure, describing how they would gather each evening during the Mumbai riots with Rajan Lall and Shashi Ranjan, crossing dangerous streets, all while deeply concerned about Sanjay’s arrest. The veteran actor recalled how their worries were alleviated by Balasaheb Thackeray, whom Sinha referred to as a “father figure” or “Godfather” of Maharashtra, whose influence was key in securing Sanjay’s release.
Sinha shared, “Aaj agar Sanjay Dutt yahan hote toh bahut acha hota” (It would have been nice if Sanjay was here today). He vividly remembered the day Sanjay was released from jail and came straight to his home to seek blessings at the Siddhivinayak temple. The two then went to Rajan Lall’s home to meet, converse, and congratulate each other.
The Mystery of Sanjay Dutt’s Absence
Sinha humorously added how the quest to find Sanjay Dutt has been ongoing, with Rajan Lall trying multiple times, but the actor’s elusive nature earned him the title “find me if you can.” Despite the humorous tone, Sinha emphasized that it didn’t diminish Sanjay’s good nature, acknowledging that the actor may have his reasons or commitments keeping him busy.
For those unaware, Sanjay Dutt served a five-year sentence for possessing an AK-56 rifle in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
