Ryan Reynolds has been keeping fans entertained with behind-the-scenes glimpses and humorous updates following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine on July 26. Known for his witty social media presence, Reynolds recently shared a particularly amusing tip related to the intense special effects makeup process he undergoes for his role as Deadpool.
In a recent Instagram post, the Canadian actor offered a valuable piece of advice on how to safely remove silicone prosthetics used for his character’s unmasked scenes. Reynolds humorously warned against ripping the makeup off too quickly or letting children help, jokingly describing the experience as akin to children tearing apart a Christmas present, albeit in a much more gruesome context. This playful caution seems to stem from his personal experience, as he posted several pictures of himself with his kids gleefully tearing layers of makeup from his face, much to the amusement of his followers.
Reynolds wrote, “One thing special effects makeup artists will tell you, is to remove silicone appliances from your face slowly, with an array of oil-based products to avoid irritation or injury. NEVER rip it off quickly or have your children tear your face apart with their sticky little child fingers like it’s a Christmas present – if Christmas was about wondering how someone looks without eyelids.”
Although Ryan Reynolds typically keeps his children’s lives private, he has been more open recently, sharing moments with them publicly. He and his wife, Blake Lively, married in 2012 after meeting on the set of Green Lantern. They have four children together: James, Inez, Betty, and Olin.
The application of Deadpool’s makeup is famously grueling, taking up to 9 hours to complete, as revealed by makeup designer Bill Corso after the first Deadpool film was released in 2016.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Hugh Jackman alongside a star-studded cast including Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and many others. The film has made a significant impact at the box office, with its record-breaking opening weekend and ongoing social media buzz underscoring its widespread appeal and the high anticipation that surrounded its release. Reynolds’ lighthearted posts have only added to the fun, keeping fans engaged long after they’ve left the theaters.
