Zayn Malik brought his fans on an emotional trip with him at his recent concert at Mexico City’s Palacio De Los Deportes on March 25 as part of the Stairway to the Sky tour. Former One Direction band member Zayn performed One Direction’s song Night Changes after a decade of not doing it, making it all the more sentimental. It was after his former band mate Liam Payne lost his life in October 2024.

Heartfelt Rendition Amidst Emotional Reflections
As Zayn sang Night Changes, the crowd erupted with cheers, filling the arena with an overwhelming atmosphere. Dressed in a red jacket and white shirt, Zayn paused mid-performance, visibly emotional. He addressed the crowd, saying, “It’s the first time I’ve sung that song in 10 years. Thank you.” Zayn added, “That was f—–g amazing. I nearly wept at one moment.” The concert was also all the more heartfelt because of when it happened, five months to the day that Liam tragically died, from a reported lethal fall in October 2024 in Argentina.

Keeping Liam Payne in Memory
Throughout his solo tour, Zayn has been celebrating Liam’s memory all along. He closes off every performance playing Stardust as he shows on screen the text “Love you bro” to commemorate his friend who passed away.

A Ten-Year-Old Memory for Zayn
Zayn’s heartfelt performance of Night Changes also celebrated 10 years after he left One Direction. On March 25, 2015, Zayn announced that he was leaving the band, saying, “After five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave.”

The Stairway to the Sky tour, backing Zayn’s 2024 album Room Under the Stairs, will come to a close on March 28, 2025, in Mexico City following a run of highly acclaimed performances across the U.S. and England.
