L2 Empuraan, the much-awaited action drama directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, had a huge opening when it released in theaters on March 27. The film broke box office records on day one, but dipped in collections on day two, March 28.

Box Office Performance on Day 2

As per the recent reports on Sacnilk.com, L2 Empuraan has raked in ₹33.25 crores so far on Friday. While the movie had a phenomenal ₹21.5 crore opening day, Friday was not as good, with preliminary estimates suggesting the day’s collection to be around ₹11.75 crore. Despite this drop, the overall performance of the movie still stands out, with 42.13% occupancy for Malayalam shows and 4.69% for Hindi.

Weekend Prospects and Future Competition

The decline in box office collections on Day 2 is raising eyebrows regarding the film’s prospects for the weekend. With L2 Empuraan going up against Salman Khan’s Sikandar, releasing on March 30, the coming days will be decisive in ascertaining if the film can bounce back and maintain its box office success.

Film Synopsis and Critical Response

L2 Empuraan is the second installment of the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer and forms part of a trilogy. The film, apart from Mohanlal, boasts a galaxy of star power, including Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier.

Though the movie has elaborate action scenes, foreign locations, and a hefty budget, some critics have mentioned that it lacks a coherent script. A Hindustan Times review said that though the movie has all the makings of a blockbuster, the first hour is like a travelogue with a disjointed narrative, which could impact the viewership. Even then, L2 Empuraan is a major Malayalam film release.
