The first look of “Viduthalai Part 2,” the sequel to Vetrimaaran’s 2023 hit “Viduthalai Part 1,” has been revealed. This much-anticipated follow-up stars Vijay Sethupathi and Manju Warrier, with the sequel focusing more on Vijay’s character, Perumal Vaathiyaar. Sharing two new posters on X (formerly Twitter), Vijay Sethupathi announced, “A new chapter begins with #ViduthalaiPart2. Directed by the visionary #VetriMaaran! First Look is Out #ValourAndLove An @ilaiyaraaja Musical.”
In the first poster, a bloodied Vijay is depicted screaming with a machete in his hand, set against the backdrop of a field. The second poster offers a contrasting, softer image, showing Vijay pushing a cycle alongside Manju Warrier in the same rural setting.
“Viduthalai Part 1” was a blockbuster, following the story of Constable Kumaresan, played by Soori, who is on a mission to capture Perumal Vaathiyaar, the leader of the extremist group Makkal Padai. The first film ends with a pivotal moment where Perumal reveals crucial information to Kumaresan, hinting at deeper layers to the narrative. The sequel is expected to explore Perumal’s backstory and motivations further.
“Viduthalai Part 2,” which will also be released in Telugu as “Vidudala Part 2,” sees Vijay Sethupathi reuniting with his “Maharaja” co-star Anurag Kashyap. The music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Shooting for the film is nearly complete, with a release expected by the end of the year. Key cast members, including Soori, Bhavani Sre, Rajeev Menon, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Chetan, will reprise their roles.
The film is the second part of a two-part adaptation of Jeyamohan’s short story “Thunaivan,” produced by Vetrimaaran and Elfred Kumar. Originally intended as a single film, “Viduthalai” was split into two parts due to its length, with both parts shot consecutively, although some scenes for the sequel remain to be completed.
