'STANDBY subject is powerful and needs to be exposed to the world'

Adinath Kothare, son of renowned actor and director Mahesh Kothare, is all set to make his Bollywood debut with director Sanjay Surkar's upcoming film STANDBY releasing on 26th August 2011. Catch Adinath Kothare in conversation as he speaks about his debut film and lot more.

You are all set to enter Bollywood now. How do you feel?
I am very excited!

STANDBY is based on the popular sport Football. So, have you ever played Football before?
Yes! I used to play football in my school times. So, it wasn't new for me all together. But of course we had to take special training for the role.

Tell us about your role in the film STANDBY? What kind of preparations you did for your role?
I play the character of Rahul Narvekar and Mr. Sachin Khedekar is playing my father's role. The story is about the friendship between two football players (Siddharth Kher and me) and how their lives change as the beautiful sport turns ugly with dirty politics.

How was it working with the 4 times National award winner director Sanjay Surkar,?
I feel very lucky that I got a chance to work with a director like Mr. Sanjay Surkar. He gave me a lot of space in my work. Trust me but Sanjay ji actually gave me the freedom of working and just let me do what I wanted. He was very friendly on the sets but at the same time a taskmaster too.

Since your father is a well known actor and director. It was easy for you to get into movies?
Yes, to some extent it was easy for me because people used to know me as Mahesh Kothare's son. But ultimately it all depends on my work-my acting because of which I get the film. If the director is not sure about me, if I am not able to enact my role perfectly then do you think he'll cast me just for the sake of my filmy background?

What was your reaction when you first read the script of STANDBY?
Firstly, I was very excited because I was getting the golden opportunity to work with Sanjay Surkar. And when I read the script I was pretty impressed by it. Because I feel that the subject is so powerful that it needs to be exposed to the world.

Was becoming an actor your childhood dream or it just happened?
No. I did my graduation in science stream. Though I had participated in dramas in school I was not into it (acting) totally. But then I had a good interest in direction. And have done a short film MUMBAI UNBREAKABLE which was showcased in PVR. To be honest I never planned for acting.

Did your father guide you or gave any tips before stepping in the industry or he just let it be you and you did it on your own?
Well dad is always supportive…but he didn't guide me for STAND BY. The role is improvise by me only.

Personally what kind of movies you like?
I like all! I watch English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, French, and many. I like studying movies in all prospects.

Have you worked in Marathi films?
Yes I have acted in VED LAAVI JEVA, DUBHANG, and SATRANGI RE.

The directors you would like to work with in future
It will be unfair to take circumscribed names of directors. But definitely I am looking forward to work with great directors and a good script like STAND BY.

How would you sum up your whole experience?
It was a wonderful experience making my debut with Sanjay Surkar. I got to learn a lot from my co-stars Sachin Khedekar, Dalip Tahil, Manish Chaudhary, Nagesh Bhosle, Avtaar Gill. And I have had an absolutely fantastic time shooting with Siddharth Kher, and Reema Worah.
