Wonder Woman 3 Revival? Think Again! James Gunn Confirms New Wonder Woman Movie in the Works

A new Wonder Woman film is officially in development, according to James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn revealed that while the project is “slow moving,” progress is being made. “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now,” said the 58-year-old filmmaker.

This announcement comes after the cancellation of the previously planned third Wonder Woman film that would have featured Gal Gadot reprising her role as Diana Prince. Gal starred as Wonder Woman in multiple DC blockbusters including Batman v Superman, Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Wonder Woman 1984. With Gunn and Peter Safran now steering DC Studios, fresh creative directions are being taken for several iconic characters.

While the new Wonder Woman has yet to be cast, Gunn emphasized the importance of the “DC Trinity” Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman—along with Supergirl. “I wouldn’t say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us,” Gunn explained. “Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and we’re working on the other two.”

James Gunn also discussed his optimism for the new Superman film starring David Corenswet, which he has written and directed. Calling Superman a symbol of “basic human integrity,” Gunn believes audiences are yearning for authentic heroes. “People are looking for heroes right now,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is fully backing the Superman project, with a large-scale promotional campaign similar to those behind Barbie and Wonka. Gunn and Safran, who took over DC Studios in 2022, remain committed to revitalizing the franchise and introducing its heroes to a new generation.
