Ever since S S Rajamouli’s magnum opus BAHUBALI hit the screens, the mind-boggling big question that has been bothering every Tom, Dick and Harry is that ‘Aakhir Kattappa Ne Bahubali Ko Maara Kyun’ (Why Did Kattappa Kill Bahubali) in the film. Within a few weeks after the release, from fans to foes everyone indulged in speculating about it so much so that it took social media by storm. A series of jokes, memes, SMSes regarding the murder of Bahubali went viral.
While the people world over are still wracking their brains to figure out the most sought-after answer and keenly waiting for the conclusion part of BAHUBALI to hit the screens soon, we have come across a few characters from the film, who we believe must have compelled Kattappa to slay Bahubali. Sounds baffling? But here we elaborate with hints from the film itself that puts the following characters under suspicion:
Sivagami (essayed by Ramya Krishnan): It’s extremely surprising to even in the wildest of dreams consider this name because Sivagami, the Rajmaata of Mahismati empire has always been shown just, noble and has done what was in the interest of the kingdom and its junta. However, the opening sequence of the film itself gives us a small clue about her probable involvement in the assassination. Don’t believe us? Well, check her dialogue “Parmeshwar Tu Mere Paapo ka Praahyschit Chhata Hai Toh Mere Praan Lele Parantu Is Bacche Ko Jevan Daan Dede (O Lord! I am ready to repent for my sins by sacrificing my life but save this child). Jo Iski Pratiksha Karrahi Hai Us Maa Ke Liye Ise Jeena Hoga, Mahishpati Singhasan Ke Liye Isko Jeena Hoga, Mahendra Bahubali Ko Jeena Hoga.” and you would get a big hint out here.
If Sivagami is so sensible and prudent, which sins (paap) she is talking about? For which sins, she is now ready for atonement? While it’s not made clear in the first part (as her character dies) and we expect that the director will give a clear account of it in the conclusion, in the hindsight we believe that Sivagami might have cheated on Bahubali. Reason being? Well she chose Amarendra Baahubali over her son Bhallaldeva as the new king because of his nobility and leadership in the war. May be she must have some hidden plans or conspiracies or she was hoodwinked by her close associates. Following that she may have ordered and compelled Kattappa, who is absolutely loyal to Simhasanam & Sivagami, to kill Bahubali.
Maharani Devasena (played by Anushka Shetty):It’s again very hard to even think that Devasena must have plotted Bahubali’s murder. But the film gives a subtle hint and makes us ponder over it. There is a dialogue in the film where Bhallaldeva’s son Bhadra, while assaulting Devasena, says “Kamini Budhiya Itney Saalo Se Apne Bacchhlan Hone Ka Dand Bhugat Rahi Hai Ab Tak Sudhri Nahi. Jahna Mard Dekhe Nahi Ki Laar Tapkane Lagi (You are a loose character, who is after every man).”
Though Bhadra is presented as cruel and selfish heir of Mahismati kingdom, the dialogue here does make us sit back and chew on. If her character is being doubted and questioned, then there must be some back story to it (which we believe will be revealed in the conclusion part). Probably, she must have devised a plan and asked Kattappa to slay her (apparent) lover/husband Amarendra Bahubali in order to save him from some big tragedy or to safeguard/maintain his dignity and devotion towards kingdom (which might have been presented to the praja otherwise by some self-centered people)
Bhallala Deva (played by Rana Daggubati):This name is very obvious and it has been clearly shown in the movie as well. In fact, in one of the scenes Bhallala is seen secretly attempting to kill his cousin Bahubali. But he has to step back as Kattappa along with the sena arrives at the spot. Though initially Bhallala didn’t let know about his hidden agendas to Kattappa, he must have later coerced him to go ahead and kill Bahubali.
Bijjaladeva (played by Nassar): Like Bhallala Deva, this is yet again a logical name, and that is perfectly presented here in the first part. Being physically handicapped and unjust he could never become a king. And later on his son Bhallala also loses out to Bahubali in acquiring the Mahismati throne. So in order to avenge and fulfill his selfish motives, the wily Bijjaladeva must have chalked out a dangerous conspiracy to strike off Bahubali and set his son’s career.
If still all these reasons don’t defy your logics enough and if you are seeking for further options or more lucid answers, you can definitely come up with your set of answers or else wait like us for the second part of the film that will arrive in 2016!
