Big B further elaborated, “I think this is a very traditional phenomenon in all Indian homes.  As young men, we always want to quickly go and stand on our feet so we can start looking out for our parents. But, in the context of PIKU, I’d like to say that this is a very evolved script as far as relationships within families are concern. You hear stories and films about father-son relationship, but there are very rare moments when you hear films about father-daughter relationship. And I think it is very important for people to know that daughters are equally valuable as the son in the family and here is a wonderful example; we debate, discuss, disagree, scream, shout at each other, but the basic emotion that traditionally is Indian in nature will always remain.”

Talking about the opinion of his character in the film, he said, “But there are very strong opinions that the father has, as far as the women are concern, which I think you should look out for because they are in a sense revolutional, they’re in a sense not being subdued by what is very conservative outlook about women in India and I think the word women empowerment has lost its value now. Every time we talk about women empowerment, it’s now passing. Women are empowered. But how wonderful to see that in a relationship in a film; the way I talk & make her understand, what are her thoughts, are her and my thoughts matching or do I know that she will be like that.”

“So if the father can already understand that situation and is able to express himself, knowing the fact that this is a very evolved and developed relationship, how wonderful it is to send that message out to the people. There are many scenes where some conservative thought is considered by the father and that is very strongly expressed,” he added.

Also starring Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan & others, PIKU is directed by Shoojit Sircar. Produced by Ronnie Lahiri the film is set to release on 8th May, 2015.
