Raveena Tandon’s MAATR is based on a sensitive subject rape and how a mother fights against all odds to seek justice.
The film is written and produced by Michael Pellico. Michael is known for his association with films like TIM TIMMERMAN, HOPE OF AMERICA, I SEE YOU (short) and documentary QUEEN MIMI. However, Michael was intrigued seeing the plight of the women in India across the world and he decided to pen down a story with immense passion and faith.
In an exclusive conversation with Michael he opened up upon the subject of rape and why he chose to write this film and his take on Indian audiences as well as his favourite Bollywood film.

What motivated you to pen down an intense story like MAATR?
I felt that this story needed to be told with a certain intensity and passion. I wanted everyone around the world to know what women go through and how strongly they deal with it. I was fortunate enough to meet Ashtar Sayed, who had the same passion as I did for this subject.
Tell us about the story of the film?
It is a fictional story based on the all too common headlines around the world. Basically it deals with hardships of a woman as rape is a serious issue. MAATR is not made just for the Indian audience but for global audience. I think their reaction would be similar as it is based on a serious issue around the world.
What made you cast Raveena Tandon and why not any other actor?
I have liked her as a person. She has adopted girls and I see that lighting streak on her face. I had a gala time working with her. In fact the entire unit is so professional and is so dedicated and believed in the story. It was great working them. I think Ashtar Sayed and Manoj Adhikari put together a great team and it was great pleasure working with them. I would say that the people in Bollywood were professional and dedicated as they would be in Hollywood.
There are so many films that have been released in India which is your favourite film?
I do watch films, and my favourite film is DANGAL. I simply love Aamir Khan’s acting what a film it was, mind-blowing.
What is the difference between Hollywood and Bollywood industry?
There is not much of a difference between the two industries. Both have their audience, but I feel the audience that Bollywood has is much more different.
