A few days before Valentine Day, the social media went viral, accusing mega star Aamir Khan of trying to exploit his heroines by deliberately going in for retakes in kissing scenes (so that he could get close to them). The case being highlighted was that of the supposed 21 retakes on Aamir Khan’s insistence during the vital kissing scene in the Dharmesh Darshan directed all time blockbuster, RAJA HINDUSTANI.

Quick to jump to Aamir Khan’s defense class filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan told us, ”First of all, it’s nobody’s business whether there were 20, 21 or 22 retakes, and it is the end result that matters. Let me first clarify that I am not doing any film with Aamir Khan and so there is nothing at stake for me. The whole world knows that Aamir Khan has a certain level of legitimacy about him. Both Aamir and Karisma are very fine performers and thorough professionals. Let me take you back in time, Valentine’s Day 1996, Ooty shivering at -2 degrees, and one of the most important scenes of RAJA HINDUSTANI to be canned. Obviously, it was not a peck in the garden. As you may be aware a film’s shooting involves a lot of parameters, sometimes the storm fan does not work properly or the camera man falters or the light is just not right! I must make it clear once and for all that NEVER ONCE DID AAMIR CALL FOR A RETAKE. It was my call as the director.”
When we queried Dharmesh as to why he has come out in the open defending Aamir after so many years, the real Raja Hindustani replied, ”You see social media is a very powerful tool. It can both be good and bad. I have been around for about years now, I joined in 2012 to be precise. I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly side of this medium. It is my responsibility to encourage the good and discourage the ugly. I will always be there to defend the actors who have behaved but (perhaps) not those who have misbehaved!”
Well, that is straight from the horse’s mouth, and hopefully it will end the charitraheen allegations against India’s finest actor Aamir Khan, and put a stop to the kiss retake nonsense.
