With SHOOTOUT AT WADALA making steady progress, it is now a given that the film is happening for sure. Though one had wondered around its announcement stage whether it would maintain good momentum in weeks to follow, the fact that Anil Kapoor and John Abraham have shot a considerable portion of the film already has been nothing but a shot in the arm for director Sanjay Gupta who was in oblivion for over half a decade. Now that he seems to be on a mission of sorts with a sense of vengeance in mind w.r.t. this being his comeback affair, does Gupta also continue to feel hurt from inside due to the long break?

“Nothing hurts me now; I live in a practical world”, says Gupta in a matter of fact tone, “After all, I had my obituaries written at least a couple of times. Still, I kept moving. See, as long as you do good work it doesn’t matter whether people you work with are your friends or not. After all, when you are not delivering then even your friends won’t work with you. This is the very nature of the business and soon you understand it, better off you would be in life. One has to choose friends accordingly; you can’t always mix business there.”
Does one sense an intrinsic bitterness here? “I am not bitter. It’s just that I understand the realities of life”, he brings on a smile, “Every film is a journey and people come together in the one that they want to. Now if you start looking at them as your sympathisers or empathisers then it is your fault. Iss dhandhe mein dosti nahi hai aur karni bhi nahi chahiye.”
