Akshay: A film less than 100 cr is declared flop

Akshay Kumar is on a roll. 2012 has turned out to be a fantabulous year for him with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ROWDY RATHORE by Prabhudheva emerging as a huge grosser, Sajid Nadiadwala’s HOUSEFULL 2 with Sajid Khan bringing him into the 100 crore club and his own production OMG OH MY GOD! directed by Umesh Shukla crossing this landmark in terms of worldwide collections. With three of his films scoring a century each and that too in a matter of six months, he can well be expected to be elated.

”Trust me, one can’t feel elated for too long,” smiles Akshay, ”You couldn’t imagine how quickly it will be before even these records will be broken. Times are rapidly changing. Ten years ago, for any actor to be hitting the 100 crore mark, it would have been a dream of all dreams and a non-existent one at that. Now if you don’t come close to that figure, your film is announced a ‘flop’ even before it had a chance to run.”

However Akshay is indeed set for a good innings right till the end of year, what with his co-production with Himesh Reshammiya, KHILADI 786, looking at making its mark as well. While mainstream commercial films are pretty much earning him good moolah, he is also happy that his other production house, Grazing Goat, has seen an auspicious beginning for it as well, hence allowing him the flexibility of placing his films accordingly.

”Yes this is exactly what we had planned for,” says Akshay, ”OMG was just the right start for our first venture as the script was just right with good mass as well as class appeal, hence resulting in a perfect combination. In months to come, you would hear a lot more from us about films being made under these banners.”
