Probably, there is no music director who would decline to work with Lata Mangeshkar. But surprisingly Lata has never worked with melody King O. P. Nayyar, who gave music to hit films like KASHMIR KI KALI., C.I.D., TUMSA NAHIN DEKHA, etc.
He remains one music director to have never utilized the voice of Lata Mangeshkar. When asked the maestro replied, ”Her ‘thin’ voice didn’t suite my style.”
If ‘thin’ voice was his only EXCUSE then why did he refused to accept the Madhya Pradesh government’s Lata Mangeshkar award? However, O. P. Nayyar escaped it saying, ”I swear I have nothing sour against Lata Mangeshkar. But sorry to say, my inner soul does not permit me to accept honours in the name of living artists!”
