Superstar Rajinikanth’s new movie Coolie, helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, continues its box office supremacy, raising new standards for Tamil cinema. After a record opening day, the movie sustained its momentum on the second day, with the Independence Day holiday giving it additional boost. Coolie collected a whopping Rs 44.8 crore net on Friday, taking its two-day collection to Rs 109.8 crore in domestic markets.
Fastest Tamil Movie to Cross Rs 100 Crore Mark
With this remarkable achievement, Coolie has turned out to be the quickest Tamil film to join the Rs 100 crore club, surpassing earlier blockbusters Leo and 2.0, which achieved the feat in three days. While collections marginally went down in the Tamil and Telugu markets on day two, the Hindi version registered a marginal rise. The movie is now locked in a neck-and-neck race with Hrithik Roshan’s War 2, which took Rs 55.79 crore on Friday, taking its two-day aggregate to Rs 107.29 crore.
With only Rs 2.5 crore dividing the two movies, the box office battle of the weekend is set to be one of the most thrilling in recent times.
Global Success and Audience Reception
Coolie has also gained astronomical success internationally, raking in close to $8 million internationally on day one. Sun Pictures established that the film’s global gross was Rs 151 crore on opening day alone, making it the largest opening ever for a Tamil movie and the seventh highest for any Indian film.

Directed by Rajinikanth, featuring Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra, and with a special appearance by Aamir Khan, Coolie has received lukewarm-to-positive reviews from critics. But the audience response remains overwhelmingly positive, with full houses in major centers.
