Kapil Sharma’s Comedy Film Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2 Gets A Slow Start, Collects ₹1.75 Cr

Kapil Sharma’s Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2 opens to a disappointing ₹1.75 crore on Day 1, struggling to recreate the surprise success of its 2015 predecessor.

Kapil Sharma’s latest big-screen outing, Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2, has opened to a disappointing response at the box office, raising concerns about its theatrical prospects. Unlike the first film, which turned out to be an unexpected commercial success in 2015, the sequel has failed to generate the same excitement among audiences during its opening day.

According to early estimates shared by trade tracking website Sacnilk.com, Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2 earned just ₹1.75 crore on its first day, Friday. The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 16.45%, indicating weak footfalls across most centres. These numbers are far from encouraging, especially considering the goodwill and familiarity associated with the franchise and Kapil Sharma’s popularity as a comedian.

The contrast with the original Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon is stark. Released in 2015, the first part exceeded expectations and surprised both critics and trade analysts with its strong opening. On a modest budget of around ₹20 crore, the film managed to collect ₹10.15 crore on its opening day alone. It went on to earn ₹8.6 crore on Saturday and ₹9.81 crore on Sunday, wrapping up its first weekend with an impressive ₹28 crore. The film’s strong start laid the foundation for a profitable theatrical run.

The success of the original film was also supported by its wide release. It hit approximately 1,700 screens across the country and featured a strong ensemble cast that included Arbaaz Khan, Elli Avram, Supriya Pathak, Varun Sharma, Manjari Phadnis, Simran Kaur Mundi, and Sai Lokur. Its situational humour and novelty factor worked well with family audiences, turning it into a sleeper hit.

In contrast, Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2 seems to be struggling to recreate the same magic. Despite retaining Kapil Sharma in the lead role, the sequel introduces a new supporting cast featuring Manjot Singh, Ayesha Khan, Tridha Choudhary, Warina Hussain, Parul Gulati, and Jamie Lever. While the ensemble is energetic, it has not translated into strong box-office numbers so far.

The sequel once again places Kapil Sharma’s character, Mohan Sharma, at the centre of chaotic circumstances. This time, Mohan’s attempt to marry his girlfriend takes an absurd turn when family pressure and religious conversions push him into multiple unintended marriages. As Mohan finds himself juggling four wives simultaneously, the confusion escalates further when the police begin pursuing him after he confesses to his tangled marital situation. The premise sticks closely to the slapstick comedy and mistaken-identity formula that defined the first film.

Critically, the film has received a mixed response. The Hindustan Times review noted that Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2 largely stays within its comfort zone. While it offers a handful of entertaining moments and features a committed cast, the stretched runtime works against it. According to the review, the film does not land as confidently as it should, though it may still serve as a light, easy watch for family audiences.

Kapil Sharma’s filmography has been relatively limited. Apart from the two Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon films, he also starred in Nandita Das’ Zwigato. That film earned him critical acclaim for his restrained and sincere performance, showcasing a different side of his acting abilities. However, despite the praise, Zwigato did not fare well commercially, remaining modest at the box office.

While the theatrical response to Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2 remains underwhelming, Kapil Sharma continues to be a major presence on television and streaming platforms. His popular comedy show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, is all set to return with its fourth season on December 20. The show has consistently drawn strong viewership, reaffirming Kapil’s appeal as a host and comedian.

Adding to the buzz around the new season, actress Priyanka Chopra is expected to be the first guest on the show. Reports suggest that she recently flew down to Mumbai to shoot her episode, creating excitement among fans and viewers.

As for Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2, its fate at the box office will largely depend on word of mouth and weekend growth. However, given its slow start, the film faces an uphill task if it hopes to even come close to the success achieved by its predecessor nearly a decade ago.
