Mardaani 3, headlined by Rani Mukerji, continues its steady run at the Indian box office, registering decent numbers in its first week. According to figures reported by Sacnilk.com, the film has collected approximately ₹24.35 crore nett in India by the end of day six, reflecting consistent audience interest in the popular franchise.
The film opened to a solid start on its release Friday, earning ₹4 crore on day one. Momentum picked up over the weekend, with collections rising to ₹6.25 crore on day two and ₹7.25 crore on day three, giving the film a strong opening weekend total. As expected, collections dipped on weekdays, with Mardaani 3 earning ₹2.25 crore on day four and ₹2.60 crore on day five. On day six, early estimates suggest the film added another ₹2 crore nett, bringing its total to nearly ₹25 crore.
While the film has not posted blockbuster numbers, its performance is being described as respectable, especially for a hard-hitting crime drama driven more by content than spectacle. The steady collections indicate that word-of-mouth and franchise loyalty continue to work in its favour.
Directed by Abhiraj Minwala and written by Aayush Gupta, Mardaani 3 is produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner. The film also stars Janki Bodiwala and Mallika Prasad in key roles. It marks Rani Mukerji’s return as the formidable police officer SSP Shivani Shivaji Roy, a character that has become synonymous with fearless, issue-driven storytelling in Hindi cinema.
The plot of Mardaani 3 follows Shivani as she investigates the mysterious disappearance of 93 young girls over a span of three months. As the case unfolds, the film dives into another disturbing social reality, staying true to the franchise’s tradition of addressing uncomfortable yet urgent issues.
The Mardaani franchise began in 2014 with the release of the first film, directed by Pradeep Sarkar, which exposed the brutal world of human trafficking. Mardaani 2, helmed by Gopi Puthran, shifted focus to the psychology of a violent serial offender and was widely appreciated for its intensity and performances. The third installment carries this legacy forward, reinforcing the series’ reputation for bold narratives rooted in social relevance.
Earlier this week, Rani Mukerji spoke about the purpose of Mardaani 3, emphasising the role of cinema beyond entertainment. She stated that films have the power to speak to people’s conscience and spark conversations that lead to change. According to her, if Mardaani 3 has disturbed viewers or made them uncomfortable, then it has succeeded in its intent.
“Discomfort is where change begins,” Rani said, adding that the film belongs to everyone who believes cinema can be a catalyst for introspection and action.
She further stressed that real change cannot come from a film alone. Highlighting the urgent need to protect young girls, the actor said society must move beyond sympathy and take responsibility. “Our girls do not need our sympathy. They need our protection, our courage, and our voices—now, not tomorrow,” she said.
Rani also pointed out that meaningful change starts at home and in everyday spaces. Teaching respect to sons, empowering daughters with confidence, and standing up for girls who cannot defend themselves, she said, are crucial steps toward building a safer society.
With its socially charged narrative and a strong central performance, Mardaani 3 continues to engage audiences, proving once again that content-driven cinema can hold its ground at the box office while delivering a powerful message.
